30 Seconds to Mars Interview
December 5th 2006 00:58
Absolute Punk have put up an interview with 30 seconds to Mars bassist Matt Wachter. Wachter talks about the self-titled debut, the successful second album A Beautiful Lie, and the videos for "The Kill," and "From Yesterday." The interview is quite enlightening into the inner workings of a band created by Jared Leto, the brilliant star of A Requiem for a Dream. Leto proves that band's with Hollywood stars can actually work, though Russell Crowe's attempt with 30 Odd Foot of Grunt left the audience grunting for actual musical talent. Is there something about the number thirty and Hollywood that I'm not seeing?
There’s enough cookie cutter videos out there that tell the same lame story about a boy loves a girl and it doesn’t work out. So we wanted to do something that was a little different, something that’s challenging and has just never been done before. The video for “From Yesterday” was kind of Jared’s brainchild. He said, “We’re going to shoot it in China” and everyone said he was crazy. Six months later, we were on a plane to China. He had this great vision and followed through and wouldn’t take no for an answer.
